Experienced solicitor Simon Chan has been appointed an owner-partner of expanding Gold Coast commercial law firm Hickey Lawyers.

Mr Chan’s promotion brings the total number of owner-partners of the company to five, the largest leadership team it has boasted in its 15 year history.

Three senior solicitors – Damien Hodgson, Dan Marino and David Nematalla – have also just been appointed partners of the firm.  Their promotion increases the number of partners at the practice to 11.

Hickey Lawyers, one of the Gold Coast’s leading commercial law firms, now employs more than 80 people, including solicitors, support staff and administrative personnel.

Mr Chan’s main areas of practice include development projects, hotel transactions, leasing, joint ventures, construction law and foreign investment and immigration advice.

He joined Hickey Lawyers 11 years ago and said the firm had grown considerably in that time.

“When I joined Hickey Lawyers we had a team of about eight solicitors; since then our professional staff numbers have more than tripled,” he said.

“It has been amazing to watch the growth of the firm, which has been in parallel with the phenomenal growth of the Gold Coast.

Mr Hodgson, Mr Marino and Mr Nematalla also have extensive experience in the commercial and property law fields.
Mr Hodgson joined the firm 12 years ago and has worked his way up from an articled law clerk to his new position.  He specialises in commercial litigation and planning law.

Mr Hodgson and senior litigation partner, Scott Eustace, are the only solicitors on the Gold Coast to have achieved the prestigious Commercial Litigation Accreditation from the Queensland Law Society.

Mr Marino also started at the firm as an articled law clerk eight years ago, before heading overseas to London, where he was admitted to practice as a solicitor in both England and Wales.

He returned to Hickey Lawyers four years ago and continues to specialise in development projects, major property transactions, management rights, planning law, tourism and hotels.

Mr Nematalla joined the firm about five years ago and specialises in development projects, tavern and hotel acquisitions and sales, major property transactions, general property and body corporate.

Hickey Lawyers, which was founded on the Gold Coast in 1993, is located in Bundall and provides specialised services in more than a dozen key fields of practice.
