Four new solicitors have been appointed to the expanding professional team at leading Gold Coast commercial law firm Hickey Lawyers.

Kara James and Nathaniel Delaney join the growing commercial litigation department and Ruby Rozental and St John Lord the property department.

Their appointment follows the promotion of Simon Chan to owner-partner and Damien Hodgson, Dan Marino and David Nematalla to partners of the firm.

Hickey Lawyers now boasts a team of more than 80 people, including 11 partners.

Managing partner Tony Hickey said the growth of big business and the property market in the region had led to an increasing demand for sophisticated commercial legal work.

“As one of the fastest growing regional centres in Australia, there are major property and commercial transactions happening every day on the Gold Coast,” he said.

“The city is now recognised as not only a tourist

playground but a business hub and the opportunities for national and international companies here are substantial.

“Hickey Lawyers’ growth has really paralleled the growth of the region and I welcome the four newest members of our team, who I am sure will enjoy undertaking the complex legal work now being completed on the Gold Coast and at this firm.”

General manager Stephen Hodgson said the growth of south-east Queensland had led to an influx of solicitors, including Ms James, Mr Delaney and Ms Rozental, from the southern states.

“The property market has slowed in Sydney and Melbourne, but continues to thrive on the Gold Coast, Brisbane and northern New South Wales,” he said.

“We have already appointed a number of new solicitors to keep up with demand and still have room for more.

Ms James has extensive experience in commercial litigation and insolvency and has worked in Melbourne for the past four years.

Mr Delaney is also an experienced commercial litigator, having worked in the Crown law office in Brisbane.

Both solicitors will join the highly experienced commercial litigation department, headed by Scott Eustace and Damien Hodgson.  Mr Eustace and Mr Hodgson are the only solicitors on the Gold Coast to have achieved the prestigious Commercial Litigation Accreditation from the Queensland Law Society.

Ms Rozental has experience across a range of commercial law fields, especially property and development.  She specialises in commercial property projects, mergers and acquisitions of all business sizes, leasing, management rights, tourism and resort developments.  She has worked for a small boutique firm in Sydney for three years and Brisbane for two years.

Mr Lord specialises in property litigation and has worked in the profession on the Gold Coast for more than three years.  His earlier career included body corporate and community management work.
