Profile & Experience

Since admission as a lawyer in March 1990 following two (2) years of articles of clerkship, Antony has practiced predominantly within the development and environment areas of law within Australian jurisdictions.

A diverse client base ranging from individuals, partner government corporations and entities to proprietary limited and public companies over the last thirty (30) years has seen his involvement advising both private and government sectors on varied development and commercially related aspects within those respective spheres.

Additionally, due to his litigation background he has been involved in major disputes for private and government parties appearing in both state and federal jurisdictions within Australia (including the High Court).

Having acted frequently for both local governments and developers, a commercially informed approached benefits his extensive client base in the assessment and determination of planning development applications with insights from both the applicant and assessor perspectives.

Apart from legal work undertaken within Australia, Antony has been involved in facilitating finance and development of projects in overseas jurisdictions (lreland, lndonesia, Philippines, USA, Lao, Thailand and China) involving dealing with limited liability corporations through to Chinese State Owned Enterprises.

Due to Antony’s prior involvement at a high level playing Rugby Union opportunities have arisen to travel extensively having played at provincial level against England, New Zealand, Fiji and Chilean national teams and lrish club rugby which involved a stint working at William Fry solicitors in Dublin during 1991 and 1992.

On returning to Australia from overseas in 1992, Antony worked in a legal firm specialising in Maritime Law prior to joining McDonald Balanda & Associates in 1993 where he remained a partner since 1996 for over twenty-one (21) years prior to joining Hickey Lawyers as Special Counsel in 2018.
