Profile & Experience

Derek Finch is a Partner at Hickey Lawyers and Head of the Litigation and Dispute Resolution team.

Derek graduated from Melbourne University with a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) in 2008.

Derek commenced his career at a top tier law firm in Melbourne. In 2011, he moved to London, where he worked at a well-respected international law firm focusing on commercial litigation, construction disputes, international arbitration and enforcement of judgments obtained in jurisdictions outside the United Kingdom.

When Derek returned to Australia he worked as a commercial litigator at a boutique litigation practice in Brisbane where he primarily acted for liquidators, administrators and receivers and managers in a range of insolvency matters. 

Derek moved to the Gold Coast in 2014 and worked at a top Gold Coast law firm where he was later promoted to Partner of that firm. Derek joined Hickey Lawyers in 2021 and brings a wealth of experience in commercial litigation, dispute resolution, construction, insolvency and bankruptcy having worked as a specialised litigator for more than 12 years.

Derek is heavily involved in the Gold Coast local community and is the founding President of the Gold Coast Corporate Rotary club.
